# ConnectMe — Setup Guide

Find job opportunities at companies where your former coworkers work.

## What You Need

1. **Claude Pro or Max** — a paid Claude subscription at [claude.ai](https://claude.ai)
2. **Claude Chrome Extension** — install from the Chrome Web Store and enable **browser control**
3. **A LinkedIn account** — you need to be logged into LinkedIn in Chrome

## Setup (2 minutes)

### Step 1: Install the Chrome Extension
- Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for "Claude" (or use the direct link)
- Click "Add to Chrome" and confirm
- Click the extension icon in your toolbar and enable **"Allow Claude to control your browser"**
- Change the permission mode to **"Follow Claude's Plan"** — this lets ConnectMe browse websites without stopping to ask your permission for every single page. (The default "Ask before acting" mode will interrupt you constantly and you won't be able to walk away.)

### Step 2: Log Into LinkedIn
- Go to linkedin.com in Chrome and make sure you're signed in
- This is important — ConnectMe uses your browser to look up profiles, so you need to be logged in

### Step 3: Open Claude in the Chrome Sidebar
- Click the Claude extension icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the sidebar
- You should see a chat interface in the sidebar panel on the right side of your browser

### Step 4: Paste the ConnectMe Instructions

**Read this carefully — this is the step people get wrong.**

1. Open the `system-prompt.md` file (the one you downloaded with this guide)
2. **Select ALL the text** in that file and copy it
3. In the Claude Chrome sidebar, **paste the entire thing into the chat message box**
4. **Hit send** — this is your first message to Claude

Yes, you are pasting it into the chat box. This tells Claude exactly how to behave for this conversation. Claude will read the instructions and immediately start the ConnectMe intake process.

**DO NOT** paste this into any "settings" or "custom instructions" field — paste it directly into the chat as a message.

### Step 5: Follow the Prompts
After you send the instructions, Claude will introduce itself as ConnectMe and start asking you questions:
1. What company you worked at
2. Names of former coworkers
3. Upload your resume (drag and drop into the chat)
4. What roles you're looking for

Then Claude will browse LinkedIn and company career pages to do the research, and deliver a spreadsheet you can download.

## How Long Does It Take?

ConnectMe works by actually visiting each LinkedIn profile and each company's careers page in your browser — the same way you would if you did it manually. There are no shortcuts or APIs. That's what makes it accurate, but it also means it takes real time.

**Expect about 1-2 minutes per coworker** (LinkedIn lookup + career page search at their company). So:
- 5 coworkers = ~5-10 minutes
- 10 coworkers = ~10-20 minutes
- 20 coworkers = ~20-40 minutes

**Go grab a coffee.** Seriously — start a run, walk away, and come back to a finished spreadsheet. You don't need to watch it work.

## Work in Batches

For the best results, run ConnectMe in batches of **10-15 coworkers at a time**. Here's why:
- Smaller batches are more reliable — less chance of Claude losing track or a browser hiccup derailing a long run
- You can review results between batches and adjust your role preferences if needed
- LinkedIn is less likely to flag unusual activity from shorter browsing sessions

If you have 30+ coworkers to look up, split them into 2-3 runs. Each run gives you a separate spreadsheet, or you can combine them later.

## Tips

- **Be specific about role preferences** — "Senior Account Executive, remote or NYC" works better than "sales roles"
- **Make sure you're logged into LinkedIn** before starting
- **Don't touch Chrome while ConnectMe is working** — it's controlling your browser, so let it do its thing
- **Each new conversation needs the instructions pasted again** — copy the system-prompt.md text each time you start a new ConnectMe session

## Troubleshooting

| Problem | Solution |
|---------|----------|
| Claude doesn't act like ConnectMe | Make sure you pasted the full system-prompt.md as your first message |
| Claude says it can't browse | Enable browser control in the Chrome extension settings |
| Coworker not found | Try their full name as it appears on LinkedIn |
| No roles found at a company | They may not have public listings, or none match your criteria |
| LinkedIn asks to log in | Sign into LinkedIn in Chrome before starting |

## Privacy

ConnectMe only uses your own logged-in browser session. No data is stored or sent anywhere outside of your Claude conversation.
